Apollon Musagete Quartet was formed in 2006 in Vienna and only two years later won the First Prize and three Special Prizes at the ARD Music Competition in Munich. First Prize at the International V. Rimbotti String Quartet Competition in Florence, Special Prize at J. Haydn Competition in Vienna, Bela Bartok and Ignaz Pleyel Awards at the 17th International Summer Academy Prag-Wien-Budapest as well as scholarships from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Karl Klinger Stiftung, Josef Windisch and many other prizes showing the dynamic development of that young group.
AMQ was honoured to play in Konzerthaus in Vienna, Hofburg in Vienna, Herkulessaal in Munich, Villa Reale in Milan, Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, Teatro della Pergola and Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence and to be guest at such festivals like Orlando Festival in Holland, RNCM Chamber Music Festival in Manchester, Musiksommer Leipzig International, Wiener Stadtfest, Settembre Musica in Florence, Internationales Musikfest Goslar-Harz and Weinklang Festival in Austria where the ensemble was playing with Hagai Shaham, Josef Niederhammer, Ester Haffner and Artis Quartet. The concerts of AMQ were broadcasted by the most important radio stations in Germany and Austria such as BR-Television, SWR-television, NDR, BR ALPHA-Television, Ö1 and Deutschlandradio Kultur.
AMQ was inspired by the members of Alban Berg Quartet and as a member of ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy) of Hatto Beyerle as well as Johannes Meissl, who has been tutoring the group since its establishment. Masterclasses with Peter Cropper (The Lindsay Quartet), Anner Bylsma (L'Archibudelli), Giuliano Carmignola, Erich Hörbarth (Quatuor Mosaique, Concentus Musicus Wien), Milan Skampa (Smetana Quartet), Ferenz Rados, Josef Kluson (Prazak Quartet), Avedis Kouyoumdjian and many other world-famous musicians have added to the group's expertise.
In June 2008 AMQ was participating in the essencial mastercourse of the Emerson String Quartet in New York held every 2 years for selected three Quartets from all over the world.
In the next seasons Apollon Musagete Quartett will perform in such concert halls as Berlin Philharmonic, Wigmore Hall in London, Herkulessaal in Munich, Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, Leipziger Bach-Festival, as well as in Tucson Chamber Music Winter Festival. In autumn 2009 quartet will record a debut CD for OEHMS Classics with works of Haydn, Szymanowski and Brahms.
